She is very black. Her hair too. For Sandra Nankoma, life was terrible as a little girl because everyone around her saw her as black and ugly.
But she never saw herself as ugly. Neither did her mother.
Imagine her joy when she was announced winner of the 5th AFRIMA 2018 Best Female Artiste in African Inspirational Music!

Though little is known about Afro-soul recording artiste and songwriter Sandra Nankoma because she leads a low profile but her sweet melodies flow in ears of every Ugandan.
Nankoma who was previously known as Sandy Soul first came in the music scene when she collaborated with Sylvester Kabombo on hit called “fumbiro” in 2009.
However in Accra, Ghana’s capital, on November 24 2018, she won an award she dedicated to all back girls and all Ugandans at large.
The vocal performer and actress won the award after her hit song ‘Kadugala’ was voted first.
The award had two other Ugandans (Bebe Cool and Irene Namatovu) in the category.
Writing on the award, Nankoma advised black girls against bleaching:

“I just landed from Ghana, The Award is here for you Uganda. Best Female Artist in African Inspirational Music, a continental award and a voice to all Dark Skinned girls in Africa, in an era when so many are bleaching so as to fit in, I say no to it. Thank you so much my Fans all over the globe and Africa, who support the cause and voted for Kaddugala the song, to @afrimawards and to my country for supporting me. If I’m denied airplay it’s alright, I’ll use other means to spread the positive energy of fitting in your own skin. Black is beautiful! Do not be ashamed of your skin tone.”
