Remember the 87-year-old lawyer and former lawmaker from Ogoniland, Senator Cyrus Nunieh, who married a young woman in 2017?
Well, he has passed on.
Pa Nunieh died barely one year after his society marriage to Rosemary Ijeoma.
The Ogoni Youth Federation announced the demise of Nunieh, who they said was their patron on their Facebook page in a statement signed by its Publicity Secretary, Lene Kingsley Lekue.
The group expressed shock at the news of Nunieh’s demise, whom they claimed was a Second Republic senator and lawyer.
“The national executive council of Ogoni Youth federation received with rude shock the sad news of the demise of her Patron, Sen. Cyrus Nunieh, a senator of the second republic and renowned legal icon who has gone to be with his creator,” the organisation said.
“We express our sympathy to the bereaved family, Ogoni ethnic nationality and Rivers state . We pray that almighty God will grant the soul of the departed eternal repose and comfort those in pain,”it added
Speaking with PUNCH on the telephone in an interview after his marriage last year, Nunieh who lost his first wife in 1991, described his new wife, Rosemary, as an intelligent woman, who would always be there for him and share ideas with him.
He said, “I cannot continue to stay alone. I love her and she loves me. We understand each other and she is also intelligent. In marriage, there are advantages somewhere and disadvantages in other areas.
“There is no limitation in age. Some may say you are old; you may soon die. But some were dead even before they were born. Some were one year or two years old and they died. Death is not always dependent upon a man’s age.
“You know that rose is the best of all flowers and we have two Marys in the Bible; we have Mary, the mother of Jesus and Mary Magdalene.
“She too (Rosemary) is a believer of the Bible. But why are you particular about her age? She is not an infant. She is a very charming woman,” he said.
