Halimat is the second daughter and last child of former military ruler, General Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida (retd). She was born by his late wife Maryam while the military ruler presided over the affairs of the country at Dodan Barracks in Lagos.
Halimat, who got married amidst pomp last year in Minna to Alhaji Auwal Lawal Abdullahi, who holds the traditional title of Sarkin Sudan Gombe, has been a pillar of support to Fatima Dangote in both wedding preparations and all the events from Kaduna, Kano and now Lagos.
The pretty IBB’s daughter, who is one of the bridesmaids to Dangote’s daughter has indeed stood in for the IBB family in all aspects of the prestigious wedding.
That the former general was absent is not unexpected. There have been concerns over his health since 2017 when he returned from Germany, where he sought some medical help. Since then, he has kept off from public functions.
Babangida ruled from Lagos between August 1985 until 1991 when he shifted the seat of government to Abuja.
