After 17 years of childlessness, Nurse Hadiza Ndayebo has given birth to quadruplets at the Jumai Babangida Aliyu Maternal and Neonatal Hospital in Minna, Niger State.

Hadiza underwent an artificial insemination after waiting for many years, resulting in her pregnancy and eventual delivery of two males and two females.

However, one of the females died immediately after delivery.

Our correspondent learnt that Hadiza had been on admission in the hospital for over seven months in order for her health to be monitored.
“Although I had normal pregnancy 10 years ago, I gave birth pre-term at 28 weeks and the child died after some days,” she told journalists at her hospital yesterday.

Nurse Hadiza who is the second wife of her husband, said, “I went through artificial insemination because I have been battling with infertility for long. By December 28, it will be my 17th year in marriage.”
She said the family members did not take her seriously when she announced to them that she would likely give birth to quadruplets.

She averred that although one of the kids died at birth, she was grateful that she had been compensated for waiting so long.

“Losing one of the females is the will of God,” she said, smiling. “There were a lot of challenges over those 17 years because a couple without a child is naked. Being patient was not easy because there were some things that you will not be able to tolerate, that you will react to.”

Her husband, Alfa Mamood, was also full of joy over the birth of the babies, saying that 17 years of endurance, patience and prayers had paid off.

The Staff Affairs Officer of the Human Babangida Aliyu Maternal and Neonatal Hospital, Nurse Comfort Tsado, said that the birth of the quadruplets was the first of its kind in the hospital.
