Moji Olaiya: Ekiti State Government Halts Burial In Canada, To Bring Corpse Home This Weekend
For family members, especially her 18-year-old daughter, Adunola, who insisted on seeing her mother’s remains, there will be an opportunity to receive and inter the remains of the 42-year-old actress in Nigeria.
This is because the Ayo Fayose-led government in Ekiti State has offered to fly in Moji’s remains from Canada, where she died on May 18 having suffered from high Blood Pressure.
This was revealed by insiders at Moji Olaiya’s Magodo residence.
According to sources, since she died a Muslim, the family and her colleagues had agreed that Moji Olaiya be buried in Canada as Islam enjoins immediate burial not later than the second day after death. But the burial of the Nollywood actress, which was scheduled for 4 pm on Friday, May 19, 2017 in Ontario, Canada, was aborted at the last minute by the Ekiti State government.
It was said all costs of bringing the corpse to Nigeria would be paid for by the Ekiti State government.
From all indications, her remains will arrive this weekend and interment takes place immediately.
Moji Olaiya, who was one of the children of highlife music icon, Victor Olaiya, was an indigene of Ekiti State and once appointed an Ambassador for the state by the previous administration of Kayode Fayemi.
She is survived by her two parents, her two daughters— one aged 18 and the other only two months old who she had gone to be delivered of in Canada.
